That's one of the premier shows of the 1990s. Dark Star>Promised Land to end the first set. My suspicion is that people lost their shit.

we did, indeed...the tease-y dark star intro was dripping with psychedelia...and while short it was very, very nicely played

S->V->F sounded as though it had been planned

phil popped a string on jack straw...that's what a bass string sounds like when it breaks...i actually liked it

all three of those shows were loose, yet crackling with energy at the same time...it was so nice to be back in california after spending the summer on the east coast

I also think this is the show where Phil debuted his new bass/sound. On Jack Straw you can hear the "pops". Do you think the Scarlet>Victim>fire was pre-planned? I seem to think so. Hornsby tips off the Victim before anyone else in the band got there. I don't think he had the juice to call an audible so I think they discussed it during the break.

Thanks for that. I remember hearing some of this on the GD hour and Gans was mentioning something about a new bass or sound. Now that you mention it that does have a loose sound

Good call on this sequence. I think it was planned or at least a known possibility. They'd already played Victim> Scarlet> Fire a few times in 91, notably on 3/21 when they followed Fire with a Stir It Up jam.
